Description

Metformin is given to some patients with PCOS. It is usually prescribed in combination with other medications to help ovulation. It can cause nausea, abdominal cramps and upset stomach. These side effects can be reduced by taking the drug with food and gradually building up to the full dose.

Metformin is a medicine which is used in a number of conditions but mainly used for the relief of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain in adults. Diabetes leads to problems controlling blood sugar levels. Metformin hydrochloride has many effects on the body and can help certain people with diabetes to keep their blood sugar level under control.

It is very important that your blood sugar level is well controlled. Blood sugar levels which are too high or too low can be dangerous.

What is Metformin used for?

It has many uses but its main use is for diabetes; it keeps the blood sugar level in the body under control which relieves pain.

Warnings and Side Effects:

During treatment initiation, the most common adverse reactions are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and loss of appetite which resolve spontaneously in most cases. To prevent them, it is recommended to take metformin in 2 or 3 daily doses and to increase slowly the doses.
